Master Bedroom Mood Board

Our master bedroom is in desperate need of some freshening up. Every time I walk in the room a want to yawn, and not because it's bedtime. The room is just so ho hum. I've been looking through magazines, browsing blogs, Googling and wandering stores for ideas.

The previous owners painted almost the entire house in Hillsborough Beige by Benjamin Moore. I say almost because the bathrooms were painted another Benjamin Moore colour that I can't remember the name of at the moment. While the paint in the bathrooms is a nice colour, it's a colour that doesn't work with the fixtures except the white toilet and the white pedestal sink in the powder room. Not quite sure what they were thinking? It was actually one of the things the previous owners pointed out in a you might want to think about changing the bathroom paint colour conversations. One day we'll re-paint the entire house, including the bathrooms, but for now I'm going to work with Mr. Hillsborough because I don't mind the tone all that much. It's one of those goes with pretty much everything sort of colours.

I've always wanted a chandelier for some added sparkle. I think it makes a room feel grand and elegant. It is the master bedroom after all. I'd also like to incorporate some of the gazillion family photos I've taken over the years. And colour! Not hello, look at me! colour but some variation to add a bit of depth because, as you can see, everything is very beige, beige, beige [yes, there is a bed sitting in the middle of the room just in case you missed it next to the beige wall, on the beige carpet, under that beige duvet].

Here's what our bedroom looks like at the moment...


The dresser was my grandmother's [there's another one beside the door to our room that houses the tv]. I remember telling my mom when I was in my early teens to never get rid of my grandmother's dark wood furniture, and she didn't. The dresser [along with the rest of my grandmother's pieces] is well loved and that's just the way I like it.

It's been there since the day we moved in because I didn't know what else to do with it. It has been the catch-all for my clothes. I was curious to see if there was anything in this basket and I found a few pregnancy magazines. My youngest was four years old this past February. To the recycling bin they go.

Remember these curtains? I never did hang them in Bella's room. I didn't think an all white curtain looked quite right in the space, and so back they went. I still love the pinched pattern look they have and so I've been coveting the duvet cover from the same collection.

And on to the mood board. It's still a work in progress but it's coming together. I found some pillows at Bouclair [I can't seem to find them on their website] in black, beige and brown to break up the white duvet and pull everything together. Hopefully I'll make my vision come alive sooner than later.
